Development of Job Standards for Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in Korea

Abstract
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to identify the desirable practice role and develop a job description of
neonatal nurse practitioner (NNP).

Method: This study utilized the basic rule for standard development. The role operation of NNP was confirmed as basic data then role performance was identified through the steps of practical compatibility and surveying importance and accomplishment. The content validity test was done for the role standard of NNP, based on the role performance of NNP using CVI (Content Validity Index).

Results: 1) The role and operation of NNP was identified as 6 roles, 12 duties and 315 task elements. 2) The job standards of NNP was developed to 12 job standards and 43 job criteria.

Conclusion: The job standard developed in this study could be used in the field of neonatal nursing guideline in various ways for developing the role of NNP, manpower, and evaluation, NNP curriculum development. The quality improvement and specialty of neonatal nursing could be secured through the role standard. Future research is needed for developing evaluation table in reference to the role standards of pediatric nurse practitioners, reflecting the role and its operation of PNP in nursing practice.
